“The 1925 Donald MacMillan Greenland Expedition was one of the first to use airplanes in the Far North. Admiral Richard E. Byrd was with this expedition, as well as Floyd Bennett. The airplane they flew was a Loening Amphibian. MacMillan made the discovery of coal deposits 9 degrees from the North Pole, which contained remains of 36 kinds of trees, showing that the climate there had once been milder.”
