“You must have been distracted by something, because you 're not supposed to be here! It reminds me of the time when Professor Miller showed up at work with both ears bandaged. So I asked him what happened.

'I was watching the ballgame on TV, and my wife was ironing nearby,' he explained. 'She left for a moment, and the phone rang. I grabbed for it and put the hot iron to my ear instead.'

'But what happened to the other ear?'

'Wouldn 't you know? No sooner had I hung up than the guy called back!
