“When you first peek at the word 'radial', you think immediately that it comes from the spokewise direction of the VOR signal around 360 degrees. And that's partially right, but not totally right. To nail it down for you more specifically, the word 'radial' comes from the fact that those signals are radio lines of position, which allow you to hunker down on a navigation fix.”
